Administering a high-quality vaccine involves various costs, including expenses for receptacles that keep the vaccine at a low temperature, transportation expenses for the volunteer vaccinating specialists, etc.

The total amounts to about 9 cents per one dose of polio vaccine.
The vaccine becomes effective when it's given twice, at intervals of 2 to 3 weeks. This means that only about 100 yen(90 cents) can save five children from polio. Imagine, just 2,000 yen can protect as many as 100 children - only a fraction of what it costs to treat a single child once the child contracts the disease.
